At Veterans MTB, our mission is to transform veterans' and first responders' mental health and well-being through therapeutic mountain biking, holistic mental health support, and guided trail rides. We are dedicated to suicide prevention by creating a supportive community that builds meaningful connections and promotes physical activity. We go beyond traditional support by offering comprehensive bike access solutions, including bike loans for outings, connections to local bike rental resources, and guidance on bike purchases. By facilitating access to mountain bikes, safety gear, skills training, and personalized equipment support, we achieve measurable mental health improvements and foster a sense of camaraderie that empowers veterans and first responders to thrive.
Veterans MTB Inc., a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Santa Cruz, California, is dedicated to transforming the mental health and well-being of veterans and first responders through therapeutic mountain biking and holistic support.
Veterans MTB was founded by Nathan Escoto, a bicycle industry leader, combat veteran, certified MTB instructor, and wilderness first responder, whose personal experiences with the challenges of mental health and transition after military service directly informed the organization's mission. Drawing from his own journey of healing and resilience, Escoto recognized the transformative power of mountain biking as a therapeutic tool for veterans and first responders. Since 2023, Veterans MTB has provided access to bicycles, safety gear, and skills training to foster camaraderie and well-being, with a deep understanding of the unique mental health struggles faced by those who serve.
Our inaugural ride gathered veterans and first responders, marking the start of our community-focused mission to create meaningful connections and enhance mental health.
Our commitment is to grow organically, continuously adapting our programs to best meet the evolving needs of our veterans and first responders. We listen, learn, and shape our community-driven approach to ensure meaningful support that truly resonates with those we serve.
Join us on a journey towards improved mental health through cycling!
